What is fiscal sponsorship? How is it different from 501c3 status? How is HCB unique as a fiscal sponsor?
Fiscal sponsorship is fast-track to non-profit status. It's a more cost-efficient and easier alternative to registering to become your own 501c3. So, instead of having to register as your own 501c3, you are underneath our 501c3 status (think of The Hack Foundation as an umbrella and your organization is underneath the umbrella).
Being fiscally sponsored, you're tax-exempt and still a non-profit while we worry about the legal-behind the scenes work. You can use our EIN number when sending over money, and you can say that you're fiscally sponsored by The Hack Foundation when asked about your non-profit status (see more about branding on our Brand Guidelines page).
But HCB isn't just like any old fiscal sponsor. We're special (not like the other girls, you could say), and here's why:
- You get access to our lovely financial management platform (check it out here!)
- We are committed to responding as quickly as possible to support your financial needs (24-hour response times on weekdays and 48-hours on weekends)
- Our 7% fiscal sponsorship fee is at the lowest end of the common fiscal sponsorship fee range (between 7% and 14%)
- We offer some unique perks in the Perks section on your HCB dashboard to support you and your team
